About Us - Establishment

In compliance with constitutional provisions, the task of teaching Hindi to Central Government employees who did not know the language was first initiated by the Ministry of Education in July 1952.

Pursuant to suggestions made by the President in a letter addressed to the Home Minister on June 12, 1955, it was decided to entrust the responsibility of teaching Hindi to Central Government employees to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Accordingly, since October 1955, Hindi classes have been conducted during office hours under the Hindi Teaching Scheme, under the aegis of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In 1960, training in the Hindi language, Hindi typing, and Hindi shorthand was made mandatory under the Hindi Teaching Scheme.

Since 1974, in addition to employees of Central Government ministries and their attached and subordinate offices, training in the Hindi language, Hindi typing, and Hindi shorthand has also been made mandatory for employees of corporations, bodies, companies, undertakings, banks, etc., owned or controlled by the Central Government.

The Department of Official Language was established under the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1975, and the Hindi Teaching Scheme was placed under the administrative control of this department.

The Hindi Teaching Scheme has five regional offices located in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Guwahati.

Training programs are being conducted at both full-time and part-time centers.
