| Ans | For early disposal of the matter received for translation, “Expansion of Translating Capacity Scheme” (Anuvad Kshamta Vistaar Yojana) was started in Bureau in 1989. Under the scheme, the material mentioned above is translated by the empanelled translators from outside of Bureau. Applications are invited to prepare the panel by giving advertisement in leading Hindi and English newspapers. |

| Ans | Central Translation Bureau has been conducting an in-service Three Months’ Translation Training Course at its Headquarters in New Delhi since 1973 for the Officials engaged in translation/Official Language work in Ministries/deptt/ undertakings and Nationalized Banks. This training has been made compulsory for all the employees engaged in the job of translation by department of Official Language (Ministry of Home Affairs) vide their OM No. 11/13017/12/75 O.L.© dated 5th May, 1976 and circular no. 12/76. In order to cater to the increasing needs of the offices of the Central Government spread all over the country, translation training centers were set up at Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata in January, 1985; October, 1985 and October, 1987 respectively. Under this course, four programmes of three months’ duration each are organized at all the centers every year from (1) January to March, (2) April to June, (3) July to September and (4) October to December. This is free of cost and full time training. |

| Ans | 21 days special translation training course has been designed for the officials engaged of Public Sector Undertakings and Banks. Training courses are conducted in the concerned office free of cost and according to the availability of trainees and convenience of the offices. Experience has shown that these types of Translation Training Programmes have been proved very helpful and useful to provide distinct information regarding translation and implementation of official language policy for the officers/employees of the concerned offices. The officials engaged in translation work or associated with implementation of the official language policy, having done graduation with Hindi and English as a subject are also eligible to participate in this special course. |

| Ans | On demand from various offices across the country, Central Translation Bureau also conducts 5 days’ Short Term Translation Training Course for such offices. Observing the utility and popularity of these programmes, the demand for these has been continuously increasing. The officers / employees engaged in translation work or associated with implementation of the Official Language Policy can participate in this special Translation Training course. These programmes are conducted in the offices concerned. The faculty members are sent by Central Translation Bureau to impart training for these programmes |

| Ans | At present, this course is conducted only at Headquarters at New Delhi. Offices can nominate their officers to receive training in these programmes. Advance Translation Training programmes are conducted for Hindi Officers, Official Language Officers and the officers of the ranks above them. |

| Ans. | Assistant Directors of CTB work as permanent faculty. Officers of the rank of Joint Director and Deputy Director also take classes from time to time. Central Translation Bureau also invites working and retired officers to impart training. In addition, scholars from Delhi University, Jawahar lal Nehru University, Jamia Milia University, Central Hindi Institute take classes in Headquarter, Delhi. In the same way, services of the working and retired officers and scholars associated with various academic institutes are utilized to take classes. |

| Ans. | (i) An exam is conducted every month and final exam is conducted after three month’s training. On the basis of the performance in the exam ‘Gold Medal’ ‘Silver Medal’ and ‘Bronze Medal’ are awarded similarly Excellent, Very Good and Good grades are awarded to the trainees. (ii) An exam is conducted after completion of the 21 days training course and on the basis of the performance in the exam Excellent, Very Good and Good grades are awarded to the trainees. |
