CENTRAL TRANSLATION
BUREAU
Central Translation Bureau
was setup on 1st March, 1971 as a subordinate office under
the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Bureau translates manuals,
codes, forms and other non-statutory procedural literature
of various ministries, departments, offices of the Central
Government and Undertakings, Banks etc. Apart from this,
Central Translation Bureau translates reports of various
Commissions and Committees by the Central Government and
training materials of various training institutes. The activities
of the Bureau enumerated below, have registered an increase
over the years.
1. Translation Work
Regular Establishment
-Central translation Bureau has been translating manuals,codes,
forms and other non-statutory procedural literature of various
ministries, departments, offices of the Central government
and Undertakings, banks etc. since 1971. apart from this,
Bureau has been entrusted with the responsibility of translating
reports of various Commissions and Committees constituted
by the Central Government and training material of various
training institutes. 46,000 standard pages of the above
materail are translated every year by Bureau under its regular
establishment.
Scheme for Expansion
of Translation Capacity - With a view to expediting
translation of material received from various ministries,
undertakings etc. a Scheme for expansion of Translation
Capacity was introduced in April, 1989. Under this scheme,
translation is done by experienced translators from outside
the Bureau on payment basis. A target of translating 30,000
standard pages every year has been fixed under the scheme.
2. Training in Translation
-
Central Translation Bureau conducts various translation
- training courses, as mentioned here under:
1) Three Months' Translation
Training Course - There is a regular arrangement for
imparting 3 months' in-service training in translation by
Central Translation Bureau to the staff engaged in and connected
with translation work. This training is imparted in its
Centres at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore. In all
these centres, four courses of three months duration each
are organised in a year. There are hostel facilities for
trainees in Delhi and Kolkata.
2) 5 days' Translation
Training Course - Central Translation Bureau conducts
5 days' Translation Training Course on request of various
Government offices and nationalised banks/ undertakings
etc. 16 programmes of 5 days' duration and 2 programmes
of 21 days' duration are organised every year.
3) Advanced/Refresher
Translation Training Course - Central Translation Bureau
also conducts Advanced Training Course for offices associated
with translation and implementation of Official Language
Policy and Refresher Course for those translators/employees/officers
associated with Hindi who have already received training
in any translation course conducted by Central Translation
Bureau. 6 programmes under Advanced/Refresher Training Course
are organised by Bureau at its Headquaters at New Delhi.
3. Publication of
'Anusheelan'
-
A bi-monthly house magazine
'Anusheelan' is being jointly brought out by Central translation
Bureau abd Central Hindi Teaching Institute.
4. Computer Training
-
Officers and employees
of Central Translation Bureau are receiving training for
doing work in Hindi on computer.
